Sometimes a week on one theme or text allows for a deeper understanding, so we normally run an annual philosophy week on a working farm in Umbria, Italy.
Annual Study Week in Italy
We usually run an annual study week (normally beginning of September) where we take a dialogue or theme to explore. We spend our time on a rural farm — Pratale — where the accommodation is somewhat basic but the welcome is warm, the food delicious (from the farm) and the surroundings beautiful. Previous weeks have included a week looking at the Phaedo, the soul and its virtues, the Phaedrus and more.
For those who prefer 3-star accommodation, the farm’s nearest neighbour (about half a mile away) runs a fine Bed and Breakfast.
These weeks consist of three study sessions a day plus time for meditation and ritual. It is therefore quite intensive and we do encourage everyone to attend every session if at all possible. There is also time for relaxation and enjoying the farm and animals.
There’s a non refundable booking fee of £30 with a daily charge of €20 per day paid directly to the farm. This includes all the food and drink- We are expected to contribute to the running of the farmhouse (but not the farm!).
