DESCRIPTION:Although the Meno seems to be a standard Socratic examination
  of a philosophic subject\, we can\, perhaps\, hear the echoes of Orphic m
 ystery teachings concerning the life of the soul both prior to and followi
 ng our earthly life. Plato’s view of education seems to be rooted in the
  teachings of unnamed but wise “priests and priestesses” who saw beyon
 d the boundaries of this life. Ultimately the dialogue brings us the Tires
 ias who retains his profound knowledge even in Hades. We’ll explore and 
 discuss how Orphism bears upon the main theme of the dialogue – the issu
 e of the cultivation of virtue.
