SUMMARY:Proclus' Theology of Plato (Book 5) - an advanced online course
DESCRIPTION:Our advanced course on zoom will look at the fifth book of Proc
 lus’ Theology of Plato: this runs to some 90 pages in 39 chapters.  Bec
 ause we expect to go into some depth we will take the book slowly and care
 fully\; the course will carry on after the 8 autumn session through the fo
 llowing winter so that\, in all\, there will be 16 sessions. As we progres
 s we hope that participants will take turns in preparing for\, and facilit
 ating\, particular sessions. Because the sessions will run at fortnightly 
 intervals\, we may well find that nominating other related texts helps us 
 build up an understanding of the intellectual Gods\, the subject of the fi
 fth book.\n\nThis is our online advanced course. To find out more details

 lease use our google form here.\n\nThis is a 16 week course\, taking place
  fortnightly on Sundays at 6pm (UK time)\, starting in September 2026. The
  eight sessions are timed to run between 6-7.45pm UK time on the following
  Sundays 13 Sep 2026\, 27 Sep 2026\, 11 Oct 2026\, 25 Oct 2026\, 8 Nov 202
 6\, 22 Nov 2026\, 6 Dec 2026 (January online dates to follow) . We use zoo
 m and share thoughts in between sessions on Slack.\n\nIn our Intermediate 
 online course starting in Autumn 2026 we'll be exploring Platonic Forms/Id
 eas and their divine power to shape\, maintain and continually perfect th
 e manifested cosmos forms the basis of Platonic teaching. This module will
  explore the nature of eternal forms (or ideas) and the way in which the k
 aleidoscope of cosmos participates in them.\n\nThe advanced studies are es
 pecially aimed at those who feel themselves to be reasonably well establis
 hed in the Platonic tradition\, and who are committed to that tradition as
  their primary vehicle of philosophic endeavour. According to the sages o
 f this path philosophy not only engages the best of our gnostic and life-g
 iving powers\, but also embraces a conscious communion with the higher pow
 ers through appropriate devotional practices (as Plato affirms in his Laws
  at 716d).\n\nThe material we cover is demanding\, and we aim to go into i
 t as deeply as possible\, using basic Platonic concepts as a firm foundati
 on for our joint study. The Trust is not in the business of judging indivi
 duals and so we leave it to you to decide whether or not you are likely to
  benefit by joining this level of exploration: if you would like to talk o

 lk it through.\n\nWe do need to emphasize that if you are looking simply t
 o place Platonism in the context of what one might call the universal trad
 ition of humankind\, this is not what the explorations are aimed at – a
 s honourable and as useful as such endeavours are. Our view is that one s
 hould drink deeply of a single coherent tradition and that an appreciation
  of the universal will spontaneously arise if\, as it should be\, the spir
 it of tolerance and openness is cultivated as part of that tradition. This
  ongoing course is our best attempt at assisting those whose focus is upon
