Course theme:
The Platonic doctrine of forms is a key to the understanding of the divine cosmos and our own place within it. This autumn’s intermediate course will look at Platonic forms – whether they are, what they are, where they are, what things participate of forms and how, and the nature of our relationship to forms. We will look at some basic Platonic texts, but also study some important insights on the subject from the texts of Plotinus, Proclus and Damascius. We hope to provide a selection of texts for home study which should provide continuity and depth in the 2 week intervals between each study session.
This is a 7 week course, taking place on Sundays at 6pm (UK time), starting in January 2026. We use zoom and share thoughts in between sessions on Slack. The seven sessions will run on the following Sundays: 20 Sep 2026, 4 Oct 2026, 18 Oct 2026, 1 Nov 2026, 15 Nov 2026, 29 Nov 2026 and 13 Dec 2026. If there is enough demand we will run a parallel course on Wednesdays at the same time: 23 Sep 2026, 7 Oct 2026, 21 Oct 2026, 4 Nov 2026, 18 Nov 2026, 2 Dec 2026, and 16 Dec 2026 .
