Description

This book aims at re-creating – not just analyzing – harmony as mathesis. Thus philosophy is re-established on the basis of mathesis.

In the first chapter the paradox of harmony finally becoming reduced to diatonic music is explored, while the derivation of the latter from mathesis (and not the other way around) is demonstrated. The concomitant reduction of mathesis to only arithmetic and geometry becomes then elucidated, as well as their relation to harmony.

In the second chapter the mythography of harmony is comprehensively investigated, and even its incidence in modern art and science. Actually, it is proved that modern science is fundamentally mythographic (e.g. Newton). On the other hand, art is revisited as the backbone of the evolution from myth to logos (Nietzsche), and therein the evolution to harmony as mathesis.

Finally, In the third chapter the mathesis of harmony is produced, and with it, its meaning in the evolution of knowledge, episteme or science, which is envisioned as the utmost statement of the cosmos. Hence the title of the book: Harmonia: Perfect Science.
